As a service to our members this space is dedicated to making available all funding requests and proposals as they are received from our members. SDIA does not have the resources to independently verify all aspects of these proposals.

We strongly recommend that prior to funding any project listed here, you consult with SDI and members of the SD Network with experience of this project. For further information, or to explore co-funding with other SD nationals or donors, contact info@susiladharma.org or virginia@susiladharma.org.

Please be sure to inform SDIA of any Funds Allocated to a Project so that we can track these grants on behalf of the SD Network.

2009.07 - Clear Path International Request: Care Villa

Care Villa is a 24-hour residential care facility for 11 physically-handicapped, dependent Burmese land mine survivors who have lost their hands, legs, eyesight, hearing, or, sadly, in most cases, some combination thereof. Requested: $12,089 USD

2009.07 - Clear Path International Request: Loi Kaw Prosthetics Fabrication Workshop

The Thai/Burma border region is a conflict zone exempt from the benefits of the Mine Ban Treaty. Rangoon does not support the Treaty and the ethnic rebel factions continue to use mines to protect their villages. Cases of landmine accidents in Burma have skyrocketed. The Loi Kaw Prosthetics Fabrication Workshop, located in Burma itself, supplies Prostheses to Burmese and Thai landmine victims.

2009.07 - Clear Path International Request: Peng Lo and Pang Ma Pha Prosthetics Fabrication Workshops

Both the Peng Lo and the Pang Ma Pha Prosthetic Fabrication Workshops, located near Shan refugee and internally displaced persons camps at the Thai/Burma border, provide prostheses for Burmese refugees.  Victims of landmines placed by Burmese army or ethnic rebel factions, these amputees are desperate to quickly obtain their prosthetics and return home to provide protection and economic support for their families.   Financial support for these workshops will provide approximately 300 prosthetics each year to Burmese landmine survivors. Requested: $14,580 USD


2009.12 Quest Center for Integrative Health request

The Quest Center for Integrative Medicine is looking to fund a new project: “The Healing Meal.” This is a nutrition program focusing on cancer survivors and those in treatment. Requested: $4,760 USD

2010.01 Entrelazos - La Obra Madre request

Entrelazos's project, La Obra Madre, has been producing workshops in theatre and dance for people with different capacities since 1997. Its objective is to develop the psycho-physical capcities and the artistic talents of the participants. Entrelazos is requesting funding to support this effort.

2010.02 Anisha Preschool Request

Anisha is working with 150 families in one of the slums of Bangalore. It is requesting help to support pre-school for very young children, aged 3–6 years, so that they will succeed in school.

2010.02 Asociacion Vivir Request

Ecuador has high levels of childhood malnutrition, undernourishment and anemia. Asociación Vivir proposes a training program to promote breast feeding for up to six months and a diet rich in iron for children up to two years of age.  Vivir's practical and comprehensive methodology will help the mothers and families support the development of healthy children.

2010.02 Mithra Foundation Request

Mithra Foundation's Cognitive Stimulation Programme will address the needs of children below the age of 5 who are in particular distress due to illiteracy, alcoholism and violence to provide these under-stimulated, children with compensatory experiences to prepare them for entering 1st grade.

2010.04 Community Training for Food Security and Sustainable Human Development in Villeta, Paraguay

Vida Plena’s project combats the poverty and undernourishment of children that result from the loss of traditional knowledge when families are uprooted and marginalized. The project promotes breast feeding and teaches the skills of gardening, food preparation, and proper parenting that are being lost as traditional ways of life are disrupted.

2010.05 Fundación el Refugio request

Fundación el Refugio counters social problems in Colombia such as drug-addiction, alcoholism, prostitution, and violence, using social training for young people and by offering silversmithing and jewelry-making workshops. It is requesting support for a training course to bring the participants' craft to a higher standard and to promote the JovenesOrfebres micro-enterprise whose aim is to finance El Refugio's activities and give jobs to the young people involved.

2010.06 Cimpanas YUM Village request

Cipanas YUM Village will focus on the empowerment of families. Poverty in the Cipanas region remains a serious problem. Many families are unable to provide regular nutritious meals, adequate shelter and education. Recent findings published by UNICEF, Save the Children and the Ministry of Social Affairs (Indonesia) indicate that children develop better when raised within a family and that wherever possible focus should be placed on the development and empowerment of families. One of the key activities will be an Organic Farm and Permaculture Training Facility to promote understanding health and nutrition, economically efficient farming practices and environmental awareness. Requested: $16,550 (USD)

2010.08 CEDERI-Madimba Request

The CEDERI-Madimba Clinic needs to renovate their building and equipment to improve the living conditions of the local population.

Specific objectives:
  • Improve the primary health care of women and children under 5;
  • Strengthen the intervention capacity of the health centre;
  • Improve the accommodation conditions of the women and single mothers staying in the maternity ward;
  • Keep the newborn children in acceptable sanitary conditions;
  • Eliminate  contamination hazards caused by the use of decrepit equipment.
