Fundacion Despertar
The mission of Fundacion Despertar is to promote the survival and effectiveness of rural schools in the Department of San Alberto, Cordoba, Argentina. The organization develops activities that designed to strengthen individual awareness and encourage reading and play.  The objective of the program is to develop personal capacity that will help people become self-reliant and able to initiate projects that will benefit their lives and their communities.

PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY BENEFITS

  • Despertar has created a toy library and a mobile book library so children can take toys and books to their homes. This activity has a great impact in the families because siblings, parents and grandparents can share the games and readings.
  •  The foundation has repaired the community first-aid post which now has a bathroom, a cement floor, two windows, a water tank and painted walls. (All this was possible through a donation by SD Argentina, individual donations, and the cooperation and labour of the local residents.)
  • Through the Mina Clavero Cooperativa Eléctrica medical team, Despertar obtained a monthly sanitary check in Villa Benegas.
  • Currently all the children and the 60 % of the women have received a health check-up.
  • Fundacion Despertar has conducted workshops on hepatitis, diarrhoea, parasites, and hypertension.
  • Despertar received a subsidy from the Catholic University of Cordoba in order to give training workshops about resilience to the rural schoolteachers.
