Around the world, the poorest communities are the most vulnerable to climate change and environmental destruction. SDIA draws on the talents of our network to promote new technologies and innovations that help make environmental protection, renewable energy and sustainable development a reality.

SDIA activities for Protecting the Environment aim to…
  • Increase the use of alternative energy for schools, clinics and communities, and bring these benefits to indigenous communities;
  • Promote sustainable agriculture in order to lower costs for farmers and reduce the negative impact of chemicals on humans and the environment;
  • Reduce dependence on inefficient wood burning and other practices which damage the environment and endanger human health;
  • Preserve wilderness areas.

A Child's Garden of Peace, Brazil

In societies that are burdened with poverty and a culture of violence, a garden can bring deeply needed respite into a child's life. A Child's Garden of Peace works to provide safe opportunities for children to reconnect with the natural world, even in extremely urbanized neighborhoods.

SUN for LIFE, France & Madagascar

Sun for Life provides instruction on creating and using solar cookers in areas threatened by desertification from over harvesting of plant fuels. The project also operates nurseries to provide trees in these areas used as shrub fencing for livestock and for providing fruit. These activities strengthen behaviors leading to sustainability.

Usaha Mulia Abadi, Mexico

Usaha Mulia Abadi (UMA) has two purposes; one of being a Subud Centre for all our brothers and sisters from around the world and secondly of being a non- profit organization that cares about the development of the community. San Miguel Atlautla is a marginalized area with a high index of poverty where 57% of the population lives from agriculture and 12% is illiterate.
